Raising awareness of opioid addiction in prescription painkillers

Client: Showpony Advertising / Responsive Website

CHALLENGE

Over the course of a year, 20% of Australians over 45 years will be
prescribed at least one opioid if they have acute or chronic pain. Alot of people become dependant and struggle for help. Return To Work South Australia (RTWSA) wanted to raise awareness of this issue.

MY ROLE

Through collaboration with my team and the stakeholders I developed the complete user experience for the responsive website. We were a small knit team: project manager, full stack developer and me, the experience designer.

01.
DEFINE REQUIREMENTS

Through conversations with our client (who were knowledge experts on opioids) we learned that the site would need to cater for a variety of audiences, since opioid addiction crosses over a wide demographic.

The core audiences were a) Health Professionals who needed to get support for their patients through information on opioids, plus healthbody resource links and b) Patients who’s primary goals were to get key facts about opioids and to check if their medicine contained any opiods.

I showcased the sketches and gathered feedback from the team. Once we were happy I ramped up the fidelity to a set of wireframes to present to the client.

WIREFRAMES

03.
STAKEHOLDER WORKSHOP + ITERATION

By the end of the third week we had a good idea of how the site should function. We conducted a stakeholder workshop in the Adelaide office printing out the wireframes, posting them on the wall and gathering feedback from our stakeholders. Since this was the first time they were exposed to the concept of wireframes, our visual designer mocked up up a few pages to help them imagine the end result in a less abstract form.

We came out of the workshop with some valuable feedback to begin iterating the important features of the site. For example we understood that for our medicine checker our health experts would need to search not just by brand but also by medicine type. We took this and other items of feedback back to the studio to brief our developer.

04.
VISUAL DESIGN

Th visual designer supported me in producing the illustrations while it was up to me to create the visual design of the site and hand off the assets to the developer.
